Deal Airport Transfers · Express Travel Kent

Airport taxi from Deal, Kent, down the coast to Kingsdown and St Margaret's

A pre-booked airport taxi from any address in Deal, Walmer, Upper Walmer and Kingsdown, from Sholden, Great Mongeham, Ripple and Northbourne inland, and along the cliffs to Ringwould, Martin Mill and St Margaret's at Cliffe. Gatwick, Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and London City are covered, and other airports on request.

The booking system works out a fixed fare for the whole car from your exact address and shows it before you commit. Express Travel Kent, a licensed private hire service operating across Kent, runs the cars around the clock, and every journey is booked in advance.

Further down: how long each airport takes, the roads a car uses to get out of Deal, where it can pull in around Middle Street and Beach Street, the three stations on the coast line, and what happens in arrivals when you fly home.

From Deal to the London airports: typical drive times

These are the typical times from a Deal address to the terminal, as Express Travel Kent publishes them. The motorways decide most of the variation, so your collection time is planned around your flight rather than the clock. Other airports on request.

  • A fixed fare for the car, shown before you book

  • Flight tracking and meet and greet on every airport collection

  • Same fare for early mornings, late nights, weekends and bank holidays

  • Up to 6 passengers in an MPV; child seats on request

Leaving Deal: the A258, the A2 and the motorways

Deal has no motorway of its own. Most airport runs start on the A258, which leaves along the Strand past Deal Castle, climbs through Walmer and Ringwould, and meets the A2 at the Guston roundabout on the high ground above Dover.

From Guston the A2 heads north-west to the M2. For Gatwick and Heathrow the drive carries on to the M25; for Stansted and Luton it crosses the Thames at Dartford; for London City it stays on the A2 into the capital and takes the Blackwall Tunnel. The A256, which joins the A2 at Whitfield, is the other way onto it.

Summer adds one more thing to watch. In 2026 Operation Brock, the M20 contraflow that keeps lorries bound for the Port of Dover and Eurotunnel apart from other traffic, ran between junctions 8 and 9 from mid-July until 24 August. Whichever road the driver takes on the day, the fixed fare stays as quoted: it does not change for traffic, roadworks or a diversion.

Journey Times

Typical times and the way each drive continues from Deal

Door-to-terminal times as published for Deal. Every journey begins on the A258 or the A256 towards the A2; the second column shows the rest of the route.

Door to terminal, by car
Typical timeBeyond the A2
Gatwick, North or South Terminal1h 35m – 2hM2, M25, then the M23
Heathrow, Terminals 2 to 52h 15m – 2h 45mM2, then the M25 west
Stansted2h 15m – 2h 45mM2, Dartford Crossing, M11 and A120
Luton2h 30m – 3hM2, Dartford Crossing, then the M25
London City1h 40m – 2hA2 into London and the Blackwall Tunnel

Typical times only; traffic changes them. Friday afternoons and the first days of school holidays can add 30 to 45 minutes on the M25, and overnight roadworks on the M2 and M25 are common. The Dartford Crossing is charged from 6am to 10pm and the Blackwall Tunnel from 06:00 to 22:00; tolls met on the journey can be added to the fare where they apply.

Before the first flights: early collections in Walmer and Kingsdown

A morning departure from Gatwick or Heathrow usually means leaving the Kent coast in the dark. The service runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so a 3am collection on Upper Street in Kingsdown is booked exactly like a lunchtime one, and early mornings, late nights, weekends and bank holidays never change the fare.

Trains are little help at that hour. Kingsdown has no station; Walmer station has no taxi rank and is staffed only on weekday and Saturday mornings; Martin Mill is staffed only part of the time. The car comes to your door instead.

To pick a collection time, start from your airline's bag-drop deadline, subtract the top of the typical range for your airport, then leave a margin for overnight lane closures. Give the flight number and departure time in the booking so the pickup can be planned around them.

  • Flying on the July day of the Royal Marines memorial concert on Walmer Green? Crowds of thousands gather by the bandstand, so mention it when you book.
  • Flying back in? Return collections from arrivals are timed to the actual landing, at no extra charge for delays outside your control.

Pickup Points

Middle Street, Beach Street and the stations: where the car can stop

Most pickups happen at the front door. These are the spots in and around Deal where the street layout is worth knowing before an early start.

01

Middle Street conservation area

Old Deal's narrow streets became Kent's first conservation area in 1968, and an Article 4 direction confirmed in 2000 covers the whole of it. Give the house number and any access notes when you book; where the car cannot wait outside, a meeting point on a nearby street is agreed with you.

02

Beach Street, the pier and the Royal Hotel

Holiday lets and the Royal Hotel face the sea along Beach Street, which runs past Deal Pier. Its parking bays are pay-and-display from 8am to 6pm, so tell us whether your door opens onto Beach Street itself or a side street, and be ready at the booked time.

03

Deal station, Queen Street (CT14 6HD)

London-bound trains use platform 1 by the main entrance; platform 2, for trains away from London, is reached by a path down from London Road. Coming in by train before a long-distance journey? Say which side you will come out.

04

Walmer station, Station Drive (CT14 7RN)

No rank here. The main entrance is on Station Drive and a side entrance opens onto Sydney Road, and staff are present only on weekday and Saturday mornings. Name the entrance in the booking and the driver meets you there.

05

Martin Mill station, Station Approach

The small station on the line to Dover, opened in 1881, with a 20-space car park and no rank. The car pulls up on Station Approach.

06

Royal Cinque Ports Golf Club, Golf Road (CT14 6RF)

The links north of the town hosted the Open in 1909 and 1920 and was one of four Final Qualifying venues in 2026. Players heading for a flight can be collected at the clubhouse; choose an estate or an MPV when golf bags travel too.

Areas We Cover

Pickup areas from Sholden to St Margaret's at Cliffe

Every journey starts from the address you give, anywhere in Deal and Walmer or in the villages listed here.

Deal and Mill Hill

From North Deal and the seafront to the conservation area, the High Street and Mill Hill on the western side of town.

Walmer and Upper Walmer

The seafront by Walmer Castle and the lifeboat station, Walmer Green, and the streets inland around Walmer station.

Kingsdown

The village at the northern end of the White Cliffs, partly on the shingle beach and partly on the cliffs and hills behind it, home to 1,692 people at the 2021 census.

Ringwould and Ripple

Ringwould lies on the A258 between Walmer and the Guston roundabout. Ripple, a little way inland, is one of the smallest villages in Kent.

Sholden and Great Mongeham

Sholden adjoins Deal on the road north and is where the Miner's Way Trail begins. Great Mongeham, on the western edge of town, has the church of St Martin, parts of which date from the 13th century.

Northbourne and Betteshanger

Inland from Deal; Betteshanger has been part of Northbourne parish since 1935. Its colliery, the last in Kent to close, in 1989, is now Betteshanger Park, home of the Kent Mining Museum.

Martin Mill and St Margaret's at Cliffe

St Margaret's sits just off the coast road between Deal and Dover, above the bay where Channel swimmers set off. Martin Mill has its own station.

The same pre-booked cars and fixed fares that serve the airports also cover longer journeys that start in Deal, Walmer or the villages.

01

London, another UK city or relatives at the far end of the country, leaving by the A258 or the A256 for the A2 and the M2, with the fare set before you book.

02

Business transfers

Executive travel from Deal to meetings and offices in London, to conferences and events, or to London City Airport for a European business flight.

03

Luxury and exclusive transport

An executive saloon for an anniversary, a wedding or a night at a London theatre, or a car and driver kept for you by the hour or by the day.

04

05

Cruise and ferry ports

The two cruise terminals at the Port of Dover's Western Docks are a short run down the coast; Southampton's five terminals are a long-distance trip, with an estate or MPV for a fortnight's luggage.

Common Questions

Questions people in Deal ask before booking

Usually the A258 to the A2 at Guston, then the M2, the M25 and the M23. The typical time is 1 hour 35 minutes to 2 hours. In summer, Operation Brock can put a contraflow on the M20 between Maidstone and Ashford; the fixed fare stays the same whichever road the driver takes.

Yes. The streets there are narrow and protected, so give the house number and a note about access when you book. If the car cannot wait outside, a meeting point on the nearest wider street is agreed with you in advance, and the driver helps with the cases.

Your flight is tracked and the driver waits in the arrivals hall with a name board. Heathrow does not allow pick-ups in its terminal drop-off areas, so the car is parked in terminal parking a short walk away. Free waiting runs for 45 minutes after an international landing, then the car takes you to the address you booked.

Each fare is calculated for the exact address you enter, so a village pickup gets its own fixed figure rather than a town-wide price. Type the postcode into the booking system and it shows the fare before you pay anything.

Yes. Neither station has a taxi rank, so say which entrance you will use: at Walmer, Station Drive or the side gate on Sydney Road; at Martin Mill, Station Approach. The free waiting time at a pickup address is 10 minutes after the agreed time.

Car parking fees and tolls met on the journey can be added to the fare where they apply, so ask about your route when you book. The Dartford Crossing only charges between 6am and 10pm, which can matter for a very early Stansted or Luton run.
